Hula's Island Grill, Santa Cruz,CA

My husband and I's favorite spot for a quick food trip is Hula's Island Grill located in downtown Santa Cruz. A small restaurant that is 20minutes drive away from our little home. My husband's passion for a tropical environment was enormous. The amazing music that will sooth you while enjoying the delicious food and the small talk with your company was just perfect. And this is what the restaurant has to offer to locals in the paradise of Santa Cruz. They have the Hawai'i atmosphere to feel and absorb plus the warm welcome and treatment from the staff. We just love it. Every once in a while we would visit this place for our favorite Hula's burger, Teriyaki New York Steak and my husband's Muay Thai and Margarita. They never fail in giving us the 5 star service that we always look for to every place we go to and as we gave back, a generous tip is always willing to wait.

Take a look at this dessert we enjoyed on our recent visit:

Just wanna share this Motivational video

MOTIVATION

Driving Lesson Done!

My driving lesson ended last Friday. I am more confident and even felt better this time. I can now drive at freeway at 65 to 70mph. (70mph is illegal)...so that's what I should be working on, to get familiar with the speed limit wherever I am driving. Sometimes I would went too fast, my trainer would even have to yell on me coz I even make a turn faster than what should I have done. Now I need more practice, needed someone to go with me everytime I need to go out for a drive while not having the professional driver's license. But unfortunately my husband can't sit beside me even once after the lessons coz he was too busy about work and don't wanna bother him for now. Hoping that one of this days we would have the opportunity to go driving, maybe end of September or October I am ready to take the DMV Road Test. My husband want me to take more lessons with the driving school I am enrolled but I completely denied it because we're just gonna waste our money paying them for just sitting behind me while giving me direction where in fact he could do it himself. Also, if I'll gonna do that it would be like spending my 2days pay from work just for 2HOURS lesson with my trainer. Not a good idea though he's paying it for me.
Life is expensive huh. I paid $289 for 6HOURS driving lesson (i mean my husband). $49 per hour for successive lessons, naaaahhh! >.<

FIRST DRIVING LESSON

It's August 11, 2011, i had my first driving lesson from the driving school I am in. So far, my instructor said I did it great today. Before we started, I assumed that were just gonna drive around the streets here near us but luckily we went through the high way going to the next town (not the busy street). I had accomplished 45 to 50mph on my first day and I can't believe that I was able to do that and somehow felt comfortable. of course, my instructor was very attentive, thanks to his own break pedal under his seat. It was fun, but still I need to work on break so we don't bang our head when I did it not-so-gently. also, the road line estimate not to occupy at least the next lane and alertness to oncoming traffic from parking lots.
We've been to 3 point U-turn lesson also and backing up which I think he made it advance (I'll have another instructor on my next lesson) . U-turn is a bit easier than backing up but he said, that's what everybody always find difficult. Practice is needed so better try it more often coz that's one of the DMV exams most critical error an examinee has always failed.
It was pretty good. Better luck next time...:)

Work

It was July 27 when I started my first job here in US. So far, I am enjoying it. There were lots of things to learn but people are also helpful and nice.
But after that day, I also got a call from another company I applied for to come for an interview which I did not go because I have work schedule in that day they want me to come.
Last Sunday, July 31, I got another call from another company I had applied to come for orientation after the interview I made with them. They were the very first interview I had before the current offer I got from the company I worked now but it took 2 weeks they made another call so I accepted the second one.
But i think I made the right choice so far, I have enough number of work hours given and just fair rate I guess.

Good Luck to me.

An astounding guess!!

July 16 when me and my husband went for food shopping for our daily consumption also for his sister and niece visit the next day. We went to Nob Hill store that is quite near to our place after Capitola Mall. We did not bring a list of what to buy coz I don't have any idea what they want so I let my husband get everything except from what we need for us which was already memorized.

We ended up having one big cart full of items that I am sure will just be good for few days. we would always say, what more if we have children. How many carts do we need to bring up into the counter? and laugh...."if we have the money for it"

The story is this, while at the counter waiting for all the items to be ring, we agreed to guess what will be the total of all this items. Then I guessed $400 first, then I changed to $300....but my husband said, "I would guess its $230" (without looking at the monitor huh) after few minutes of waiting, we were so so so surprised after looking at the monitor with the clear amount of what we have purchased, it was $230.18!!!! My husband won! and not just that! he guessed the exact amount without even calculating while we were picking out the items knowing that most of the time I would sneak out things that I needed.
It was just an extra-ordinary timing of a great guess! My husband was lucky I guess, or just a genius or I would consider an all-time spender! haha!

We had a good laugh at the counter with the cashier and bagger. :)

INSENSITIVE!

I might be too sensitive but can't he understand that? Does it has to be always "good" and what's on his taste?
Can't he understand that there are things that I like that he might not?! Even if there were also times that I am convincing myself to like some of his likes though I really not? Why does it has to be in accordance with HIS standards?! Oh yeah I forgot you're great, your people even think you're great! everybody that surrounds you think the same. Including me! But I am not great! and sorry for that!!!!!

....this was all because of Dr. Phil show.

My busy day!

I was so busy today sorting documents needed for our interview at Immigration. All turned out well.

Didn't notice the time until husband called asking what time is my dentist appointment today,40 minutes to prepare! But  thank God he was just about to leave the office when he called coz I was just gonna go and shower which normally took 45 minutes for me! I run into the shower and did it for 15minutes still long though coz it takes another 30mins for me to comb, dry, try-on clothes. But I tried my best to make it short and didn't bother too much how do I look like. Husband called up again saying we will be late because of heavy traffic so I need to call them which I did, I told them...we won't be there until 5:15 which is the only grace period given for every appointment. AFter that call, husband called again that we may not able to make it at 5:15 it might be 5:20 so I need to ask again. Of course I called up and thank God I talked to Trang and she said it is ok, we will still be accommodated. And now husband arrived, I heard the horn from outside..I jumped out of the house of the house before realizing that I was actually chatting online with a customer service representative about the wrong size of the item we purchased online that was delivered.

..to be continued..

A remarkable dentist experience

It was my 4th visit today (and thought was last) to the dentist for several treatments I needed after not giving attention to my dental health for very long years. Now, I would really wanted to be health conscious ever. I won't mention my previous treatments coz basically they were just one of those normal stories every individual would've experienced in their dentist appointment. This time, Dr. Scott and Dr. Trang  told me at first that this is the most easy and quick treatment that will be done. I believe to them...well, I have had an idea about what will they do but still I have provided space for "some"sort of things to expect, Thank God. Everything was done successfully and easy as to the follow up of the previous treatment made. 'Been lying for about 60 minutes already (the shortest huh, in my previous visits there's one I was treated for 2 hours) so I think it was  good...But I felt the pain. Not literally pain but the sensitive part of my teeth is involved so that was a little hard which i wish won't happen again.

Now the final thing is cleaning, thought it was as easy as to what I've had imagined but it's not...Scott started on the very first tooth but I almost faint. Not because I got scared but my jaw was so tired (though they put this rubber thing on my mouth) and I really had felt the pinch on my gums. Scott asked me if I was ok then I said, I guess so...I can do it. It was just so funny that the last thing to do is what would make me give up compared to those drilling and extensive treatments in the previous (I consider. :)

I trusted my dentists so much and they were just so nice to me, to us! I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wanted treatment from a dentist. SERVICE was absolutely great but FEES are definitely HATE HATE! haha! I don't wanna talk about it anyway. Don't even wanna think of it.. geeezzz!

After the treatment, the lower right part of my mouth was still numb, I asked my husband to send me to the mall coz I wanna eat and the nearest is that Chinese resto, . But oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddd, while I was eating, thought it was the chicken I was biting until my husband notice that the inner part of my lip is bleeding! It was my MEAT! LOL! I was eating myself! :P
Then I stopped eating. While at the car, I looked at mirror and found out my lip look. Terrible and I am sure will be sore for the whole week. :(
Let me show you.

It's been 5 months already but I've been consistent in my sleeping habit. I stayed awake up until about 4am and woke up so late. My laptop (which my husband used to call it "my other boyfriend" was always there to stay with. What I would usually do was to open my Facebook account (not on chat) to glare at every once in a while.
Then Youtube was just amazing, my favorite songs and singers are always available but when I feel like i really need to convince myself  that it's time to sleep, RICHARD CLAYDERMAN was the BEST. Sometimes it doesn't work, HE could also make me EMO! :)

Now, I'm busy thinking how do I need to prepare myself in my coming endeavors in the outside world of my new environment. Exciting yet a little nervous but I know I can DO it.
I just really hope that my plan was  also what's Gods will for me.

****I keep myself busy also in improving the look of this blog in a way that will suit its title and its content. I was happy with the result. It's 1:19am here yet I'm still wide awake.

FEELIN' LONELY AND ALONE ;'(

Have you ever experienced to be misunderstood no matter how much you've explained your side?

Have you ever done something in your life that you don't exactly mean what other people might think about it afterwards?

Have you ever became daring and playful sometimes in your life just to entertain yourself and make fun out of it?
If so, does it mean you are immature?

Have you ever wanted to live this life taking ALL things seriously as if we are not allowed to be a bit crazy? in fact you also know you'll end up the REAL COOL INSANE!

Have you ever dreamed of living a life by following the standards you have created and plan and make it happen accordingly? ***now that's what makes life boring!

Have you listed all the things you wanna accomplish all your life?**now this is fine.

Now, have you ever had all this questions in your mind but then you have no one to talk to?

Have you ever stayed alone in an island that nobody could ever make you feel better except but you?

Have you ever think of backing off just because of this questions?
Now, this is the last option.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON TRIP

May 6 to 11 2011

I and my husband went to Seattle, Washington on this dates. It wasn't for vacation purpose but something related to his work, a seminar at Virginia Mason Hospital. He doesn't want me to stay alone in our house while he's on his trip and so he want me to be with him. Since the seminar will start Monday then he decided to leave early so we could also spend our weekend there and hang out or learn from the place. so we did...

We left the house at Friday, around 5:15 in the after noon for 6:25 flight. We were kinda worried because we estimated we will be late. :) but God always provide and knows where to guide us. we did the short cut and some road techniques. (my husband knows it)

So to make the story short, this is a little longer trip compared to goin to Las Vegas. I had my Nook Color with me that helps me to relax during the trip and also to finish the book i am reading, Tom's Bride. :) My husband has his own book for his job, again.
We are expecting rainy weather in our destination so its exactly what we have found out. A taxi from the airport send us to Renaissance Hotel at downtown Seattle where we are going to stay for few days. The taxi driver was African from Kenya. Nice and informative. We arrived at the Hotel starving because i didn't had my lunch and snack before we left as well as him. We just threw our bags in our room, 2103 (rm no.) then we went to Rview for dinner. It's pretty good and somehow made our night and be ready for rest overnight.

On our first day, what we did is to walk around the streets. Its cold outside so we prefer to buy some jacket/coat for me and good thing it's sale at Eddie Bauer. We look around the streets and all you can see are huge buildings and commercial areas and people taking pictures and some are just walking around too. Our first destination is PUBLIC MARKET. It is well known and obviously expect the number of people more than people in the streets. I saw this StarBucks at a corner and told my husband that it might be the first ever Starbucks in this world because i noticed people are taking pictures with its background. but he said no....i was a little disappointed but i believed him. then we walked around seeing just the same stuff that you could imagine that a public market must have except that flowers are everywhere. They are sooooooo beautiful....bunch of people with different colors were there. ;) WE had our Brunch at Etta's Resto, just a small one but with pretty good food and service. So it's worth it...
We went to AMC Theatre at nearby mall just few block before the hotel to watch Thor and we enjoyed it. And then stop by at a MExican Bar and resto just in front of the theatre. We finished our day by just walking around and joining people in the street before deciding to get back to the hotel because we were tired of walking.

Second day, we woke up very late coz we were sore of that walking the previous day so the only thing we did after is get out of the hotel and walk around until we found Hard Rock cafe. It was a good decision because we enjoyed our half day spent with their cool music and fun people. We took some picture inside stayed for a little while before we left. They gave me a nice red rose (maybe one of their gimmicks for mother's day celeb) but i am not YET a mother. :) so it was fun..then another long walk just to drizzle our eyes and finish the day. Before we proceed to the Hotel we stopped and do some shop for personal items at a store then found out that most of the people workin' inside are my people. Didn't talk to them coz they were too busy (but i am dying to ask them :) ) Then we just keep on walking until we've reached the port. Luckily, we were just on time for the tourists 1hour cruise. And so we did it, we paid the ticket and wait for our turn. We were the first set of pair that cross the path into the boat so we got the best spot of the view (for us). Standing right in front of the boat facing the ocean where it leads us and viewed the best scene of Seattle from the Elliot Bay. We were pretty close to Seattle's Aquarium and the huge view of the Space Seattle. It was a very thrilling experience since it was my second time to be in a ferry. 'am still afraid of the sea water....But we enjoyed it felt it all worth it. :)

Third Day, i was left in our room; hubby went to seminar and i spend my whole day inside. watched TV though i am struggling for an idea to go out. But my husband left a note, "please stay inside the room"...so i stayed. Anyway, we had a reservation made at the Space Needle restaurant at 6pm so i just have to wait. Then he came, we were in a hurry to leave coz we forgot it is 5:45 and not 6:00. It was both our first time to be there so its super exciting. We rode in the elevator going up and provided with seats. Know what's pretty cool with that? the dining part of the restaurant is rotating that you could see the view is changin,....the waiter said, 60seconds per window. The food was ok, but i didn't enjoyed it that much coz i got the wrong one. I mean i tried to order new food for me but i didn't liked it so i stayed. But no to another set of food because its too expensive! :D
We took picture after on the upper deck and enjoyed the view facing the Seattle greatness. :D And that ends our day and back to hotel.

Fourth day,
I was left alone again just like yesterday and stayed inside the room. But for some reason i feel like i wanna go out and fear not to meet/see people coz sometimes i run out of confidence with my language ability. Fluency in English..but i did. I went down of the Hotel from 21st floor and started walking way up to the street where we went to on our first day. I've seen a lot of people as always though it's 1pm in the street but not on the spot where i decided to have some eat. It's nice to be alone sometimes while people might wondering i used to smile more often. hehe.. Then i've reached the port again up until Sseattle's Aquarium and a small park. I've seen a big cruise ship, forgot the name, but it's almost few walk from where i stand i could touch it. So, 'been walking for almost an hour and decided to get back coz i might get lost! :) While i was approaching the street going to that big ship, there i saw this two black ladies laughing while crossing the street towards me. They look nice people so i smile. Then after i decided to make a turn on the way back to the hotel, one of this old ladies called my attention, she said,"I like your outfit!" then i said, "Thank you!" then she asked "are you a morrel?" (that's how i heard it) then i said, "I'm sorry what is it?" she said, "a model. a camera." then i said, "oh no. but thank you." then she said, "you should!" hahahaha! that's all then i said thank you and left them. that was nice compliment huh! lol!
Then I keep walking and almost feeling tired already when i remember that i need some stuff from the store few blocks before the hotel. I went inside the store and do some browsing on what other else i could buy for myself. Like i was standing at the sunglasses stand trying on some of it when i man in a wheel chair asked me, "Can you please do me a favor?" i said, "Yes. what is it?", he said, ?can you put on that sunglassess you are holding up? then i smiled and said, "Yes, sure!" he looked at me and said, "No. no. that's not the right one for you." then he smiled. Then he said, "Are you married?" i said, "Yes I am!", he said, "Oh-uh. that's too bad. (looking disappointed)" then he said, "You are beautiful and very stylish." then i said, "Thank you so much! (and big smile)...then I left that corner. I was so so so pleased with what i have heard from this people. (Who will not?) hehehe...Then I pay at the counter and go back to the hotel and tell my husband after he arrived about what had happened. He was also happy for what i did but also a little afraid about me staying alone outside. :))

Fifth Day. Time for depart. But my husband still have to go the seminar for half day so I have to packed things and be ready until he came so that's what i did. Everything are packed in order just ready to grabbed and go. We left the room around 1:30pm and set for airport trip again. We were just in time when we arrived at the airport and security checks were fine and ready to take off. We arrived San Jose Airport around 6pm and we have an hour to drive before reaching home and we are ready to rest.

All in all. everything went smooth and according to plan so we were so happy about it. It was a fun trip. :)

Las Vegas Trip March 2011

We went to Las Vegas for vacation after our wedding. its basically part of the plan not exactly to be in Vegas but just to spend vacation because the first choice is going to LA, Disney. But because we have saved some money from buying our wedding ring, we did something different.

Then Las Vegas trip was booked! I even get mad at him first because i was left alone downstairs and he was so busy facing the computer and not even telling me why he can't be with me. he just say, "i'll be there soon, ok" which i don't really get.
Then he went down telling me that he just booked a travel goin to VEGAS. Of course i had the BIG BIG smile! i get excited about it, i just saw Vegas from Movies.

Here comes the day....
First, we left the house early goin to San Jose Airport. One thing that makes this trip possible is we have the nicest deal among the plan. But we have connecting flights! i don't care anyway, as long as we could be there...:)) we travel from San Jose Airport going to Phoenix, Arizona then to McCarran International Airport.
we checked-in at the airport MGM Grand station and had a shuttle service goin to the hotel.

To make the story short coz here i am again feeling lazy telling the whole story...
what we did is just walked and walked and walked along the strip. We went to huge restos and bars at The Venetian, Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, The Bellagio, Eiffel Tower, The Mirage, and more.
We've watched several shows also like The Lion King at Mandalay Bay, The Blue Man Group at The Venetian, Love (the beattles) at the Hotel Mirage, Las Vegas Show at The Venetian, Phantom of the Opera at The Venetian...All of this shows were amazing! since this was my first time to watched a broadway show, i always get excited to watch what is next everyday. and every after show we would go to bar to have some drink and watched people around with all their different look. I even took picture of some of them. :) I've seen a lot of advertisements about SEX FOR SALE. Indeed, its a sin city! people go crazy! people had their own world! group of people!
Slot machine made us go home with less money in our pocket. We spend less compare to CRAZY MILLIONAIREs who spend their million dollar wishing for their luck. Its unbelievable! You can't even see the economic crisis that the world are talking about. Games are everywhere or i would rather say casino is everywhere! But also, the hotels and all of this things that they could offer are tremendously blinding everyone's eyes! its truly amazing... we spent few days, 5 days to be exact. But it seems like we never had the chance to be well rested though we are inside of our room for sleep. It makes you feel like there's more and people are still alive and not wanting to rest downstairs and you wanna join them! you can never feel the end of the day because the city is 24/7 alive! i am enough of Vegas.. it's not an advisable place to live in. Good for few days i guess.

BUT EVERYTHING IS AMAZING! THAT'S FOR SURE. AND I ENJOYED A LOT!! WE ENJOYED A LOT.
**my husband ordered online our Gold wedding bands before we left the house for this trip so when we arrived home the NEW white gold wedding ring is ready to pick up. :) we had it!

time to go home,
i have some sort of problem encountered at the airport. during boarding time, (btw, we conclude this even before we left coz we had a mistake in making reservation for our plane ticket, i used my married name where in fact i haven't had my ID with that name so that is questionable) the guy who checked my name on boarding pass noticed the difference in my passport and the name i had at the boarding pass. I tried to keep calm, but started thinking that i will be sent to my native country after joyful days in Vegas, i haven't had my Marriage certificate copy. They put me on hold at the corner and wait for someone to verify the situation! and after few minutes, Thank God! they let me in!! yes, we went home by connecting flights..Las VEgas to LAX to San Jose.

EXCEPT FROM THAT, EVERYTHING WENT WELL. :)

IDEAS..IDEAS..let me have enough courage to do what's in my head.

I am here sitting in front of our desktop, around 11:52pm and still wide awake. I wonder why but its not certain if something's bothering my head since i was suppose to be excited for tomorrows trip.

Oh ya, back to my idea...i have started this blog a year ago (guess) and posted some blog once in a blue moon. my idea is why not try harder to post my blog in English language then maybe it would help me gain confidence and force myself to search and learn for more words (internet) but of course without forgetting my native language, Filipino and Bikol. That's the advantage right, there's more...when i am posting blog, i also practiced my computer skills-typing skills which i believe will be very useful for someone like me who's just about to start a career here and to think that computer skills is a plus to any job! ;)

Sleepy...Not

i am sitting here at 1:28am, not feeling ready for sleep.

WOW! it's been a long time since the last time I have visited you. 'know i lost the interest in writing because of several relevant events in my life. Totally complicated that i don't even know when and whom to turn to... but atleast i can say that i am over it...(that's how i believe)

It was such a long and thrilling journey of my life since i am living here in the US. Yes, coz i am married now living with my wonderful husband...i am.
Now, i have experienced another stage of life's journey which i never thought that it's as big as this. Living with someone-my husband.
All along when i was still dreaming of being abroad, it was all about money. I mean to have a job or spend my days at another country with my friends or family. I always dreamed of that...But you'll see the difference. Now i am married, though my husband is just so supportive as to whatever I would want to do, it's gonna be different. When i was planning of working abroad/applying for work abroad (coz i never planned to be married at this age), i used to see myself as an earner and thrifting money for my other plans. I wanna travel and visit nice places in my own country/abroad....with close friends. with family...with someone that i know i would really enjoy spending time with. that's all in my mind....actually i never planned yet for getting married or anything that has to do with having my own family until i get done with all of these priorities. Somehow i realized once that i wanna have a child. But of course i adore every happy family..i belong to a happy family, a poor(financially) happy family. As i grew up i learned to live my life and work for it to achieve happiness and fulfill every detail of how i want my life to be. That's how i think....work, enjoy, family, happiness. 'Guess they were just in the same level of doin'. Fulfilling my dreams and my goal!
